Man Yu is an interdisciplinary, humanist, vegan and environmentalist artist, born in Hong Kong and based in Costa Rica. Although her primary medium is painting, she also uses installation, video, performance and other techniques to communicate. Her work focuses on raising awareness of the multiple layers of the human being: the material, mental, psychological, emotional, psychic, psychic and even the supra-conscious, but now also the virtual. It addresses issues of anti-xenophobic activism and environmentalism by exploring identity in its various facets. His aim is to encourage, whether with realistic paintings or Pop art figures, self-study and self-discovery in the viewer.
Man Yu has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions and his works are in important collections, such as those of the Post Office, the Ministry of Culture of China, the Costa Rican Centre for Science and Culture, the National Bank of Costa Rica, etc. She has received significant recognition, including the award for best short film at the European International Film Festival and the declaration of national cultural interest in Costa Rica. As official ambassador for Esencial Costa Rica, she has represented the country at events such as Museari Queer Art in Valencia and the Beijing Biennial. In addition, she was awarded the AICA Costa Rica 2022 Critics Award, standing out as the Costa Rican artist with the greatest international projection.
